Global warming and climate change are sciences odd couple ââ¬â you hardly hear one mentioned without the other. But much like the confusion that surrounds climate science, this pair is often misunderstood and misused. Lets take a look at what each of these two terms really means, and how (even though theyre often used as synonyms) theyre in fact two very different events. The incorrect interpretation of climate change: A change (usually an increase) in our planets air temperatures. Climate Change Is Non-specific The true definition of climate change is just as it sounds, a change in long-term weather trends ââ¬â be that rising temperatures, cooling temperatures, changes in precipitation, or what have you. By itself, the phrase carries no presumptions about how the climate is changing, only that a change is occurring. Whats more, these changes could be the result of natural external forces (like an increase or decrease in solar sunspot or Milankovitch Cycles); natural internal processes (like volcanic eruptions or changes in ocean circulations); or human-caused or anthropogenic effects (like the burning of fossil fuels). Again, the phrase climate change doesnt specify the reason for the change. The incorrect interpretation of global warming: Warming due to a human-induced increase in greenhouse gas emissions (like carbon dioxiode). Global Warming Is One Type of Climate Change Global warming describes an increase in Earths average temperature over time. It doesnt mean that temperatures will rise by the same amount everywhere. Neither does it mean that everywhere in the world will get warmer (some locations may not). It simply means that when you consider the Earth as a whole, its average temperature is increasing. This increase could be due to natural or unnatural forces such as an increase in greenhouse gases, particularly from the burning of fossil fuels. Accelerated warming can be measured in Earths atmosphere and oceans. Evidence for global warming can be seen in retreating ice caps, dry lakes, increased habitat reduction for animals (think of the now-infamous polar bear on a lone iceberg), global temperature rises, shifts in weather, coral bleaching, sea-level rise and more. Why People Mix Them Up If climate change and global warming are two very different things, why do we use them interchangeably? Well, when we talk about climate change were usually referring to global warming because our planet is currently experiencing climate change in the form of rising temperatures. And as we know from monikers like FLOTUS and Kimye, the media loves blending words together. Its easier to use climate change and global warming as synonyms (even if it is scientifically incorrect!) than it is to say both. Perhaps climate change and global warming will get its own portmanteau in the near future? How does clowarming sound? The Correct Verbiage If you want to be scientifically correct when talking climate topics, you should say that Earths climate is changing in the form of global warming. According to scientists, it is highly likely that both are being driven by unnatural, human-caused reasons.

Compare and contrast how three poets (in four poems) explore love and its consequences. In this essay, I will be looking at the poems First Love (John Clare), My Last Duchess (Robert Browning), Porphyrias Lover (Robert Browning) and To His Coy Mistress (Andrew Marvell). I will refer to these poems as FL, MLD, PL, and HCM respectively. I will first be looking at what love can do to ones emotions, and then at what people can be capable of doing. Clare has managed to convey what love can do if it is not recognised in his poem, FL. In the last stanza of this poem, he asks the rhetorical questions of whether loves bed is always snow and if flowers are winters choice. By this I think he is questioning the reader if thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In MLD, for instance, the duke had his last duchess killed, because he believes she is, to put it in modern day terms, a flirt. We can see that he believes this is the case and that it is otherwise when the duke states that it was not only him that brought a spot of joy to her cheek. He believed this was because she was being, excited, by another man, but he misinterpreted this totally in that, in fact, she was only blushing, perhaps of slight embarrassment or out of shyness. Because of what he believes, he makes sure that all smiles stopped together, indicating that he had her killed or there is the slight possibility that she just died, although this is unlikely, judging by the ton e of the poem. Confirming my theory of her being murdered, he begins the poem by telling the audience that she is painted on the wall, and that she is only looking as if she were alive. Again, toward the end of the poem, she stands only as if alive. In his other poem, PL, he shows how the lover killed Porphyria, and also hints at why. I think he killed her because he didnt want her to change. We get an idea of why he didnt want her to change from the text. For example, Porphyria glides in, which seems to be a sexual term in this sense, indicating that she is seductive. It is shortly after this part in the text that we find out that the lover could be a psychopath. I notice this when Porphyria had toShow MoreRelated Attitude Towards Love in Valentine and The Flea Essay1660 Words à |à 7 Pagesand Theme, Compare and Contrast the Poets Attitude Towards Love in Valentine and The Flea. Ugh, I hate hiking, I stated out loud as my family prepared to go up the mountain. Our family never did things together as a group let alone hiking, so why were my parents so keen on starting now? And additionally, why were my sisters okay with this? Although I never went hiking, I heard horror stories that were enough to dampen my interest on the activity. Despite my contempt and complains, my parents wearily pushed me along as I prepared for the tedious path that lied ahead. For the first half of hike, I looked at my feet, barely glancing up to look around me hoping that it would make the hike go quicker. However as we took our break, I realized how much my strategy failed seeing how refreshed my family was as opposed to my panting. After our break, my father told me we didnt even begin our real hiking journey and that what we did before was only a warm up. We will write a custom essay sample on Hiking Boots or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Exasperated, I decided for the rest of the journey to cooperate with my family and make the best of our trip. Surprisingly, pointing out the radiance of the trail and actually looking at the surroundings made me appreciate the beauty of hiking and the peace that does exist in a chaotic world. As the mountain became steeper, it became a little more difficult to climb. Numerous times I stumbled, and a couple of times I fell, but with my newfound determination to reach the top and the aid of my family, I was able to continue. There were plenty of times when I wanted to recoil back into my old habits of complaining and just stop hiking, and could have if chosen, but I really wanted to reach my goal. As we approached the top, I noticed how different the aura was from when we started and the calmness that came over me. The worries I had previously, vanished and at that moment, just having my family in such a serene location was all that seemed important to me. After many hours of walking, we finally reached the top, and I was shocked. It was truly a sight to see as a beautiful sunset filled the sky with bold colors, and a sense of peacefulness surrounded me. As I traveled back down the mountain, the images were still fresh in my mind, indelible in my memory. Although in the beginning I was skeptical to hike with my family, the journey up the mountain opened new realizations to me. Since hiking, I have learned to become open minded to new experiences and to enter them willingly rather than grudgingly. Moving forward requires negative habits to cease, and Ive learned not to carry those habits because it hinders the learning process rather than build it up. Most importantly however, Ive understood the value of time spent with family and the importance of their support. It is difficult to climb a mountain given an extra ten pounds carried on your back, but minor obstacles such as those makes one that much stronger, which is applicable to the journey of life. While walki ng back to the car my mother asked us what we wanted for dinner, and after thinking for a moment I replied, lets try something new.

You must thank him for his time and his interest in the company or organization. Remember that this is sort of like the ice breaker statement and so it is crucial that you mention it in your letter. Firmly state that he is not eligible for the job It is hard, but you have got to get to the point sooner or later. So, once you have thanked him, inform him that it wouldnââ¬â¢t be possible for the company to hire him. But bear in mind to keep the situation stable by mentioning that you appreciate the candidates qualifications and experiences or his motivation for the job. This was the positive or neutral statement I was talking about earlier. Give a solid reason When you are rejecting a candidate and saying that their qualifications or experience isnââ¬â¢t enough, you also need to tell them that you have hired a person who has the appropriate skill and qualification for the job. Write the ending lines In the end, remember to wish the candidate the best of luck for his future and his job hunt. Be sure to wish him that he finds a reputable position at a well known company. Close the letter with a standard ââ¬Ësincerelyââ¬â¢ and sign in your name.

The Beatles Impact on the Worl essays Why the Notion that the Beatles Changed the World is a Misconception The Beatles had a minimal effect on the world's course of events. They jumped on the hippie bandwagon at the perfect time to capitalize from it. Their fame did not reach as far nor did not unify as much as some people would think and they are merely an icon through which baby-boomers reminisce about the "good old days". The Beatles are credited with touching off the revolution of the sixties. In reality, it was the hippie era that influenced them. They knew that it was something that the kids were becoming interested in. The next plan of action was to create the illusion to the masses that they were part of something bigger. This worked well and still does with the teen who are especially susceptible to becoming swept up. Through this, they were able to sell more records than imaginable. They made their profit from selling philosophy. Many people claim that the Beatles won worldwide fame. Even John Lennon claimed that he was "bigger than God". The reality is that every culture would not fall to the British influence. They have enough self-identity to not be so easily taken by four guys with music. By the way, the Gideon Bible alone has been published in 170 countries, and 900 million copies have been circulated. This dwarfs the measly broadcast of All You Need is Love in 24 countries and no Beatles album could ever come near 900 million sales. Lastly, anyone can plainly see that the body of Beatles fans is comprised overwhelmingly of baby boomers and early Generation X-ers. The only reason that people still talk about or listen to the Beatles is because it is a means by which 40-somethings can reminisce about the Flower Power era. Anyone can climb aboard the Beatle bandwagon as the Beatles did aboard the hippie bandwagon. The Beatles are generous and nice people, I am sure. And, it is true, they created good music and opened the door fo ...

Firewall Applications - Essay Example Firewalls protect a computing device throughout its connection to the internet by continuously monitoring all its activity. The software reduces popups by allowing only the trusted set of programs to access the internet. It determines the set of trusted and non- trusted programs by maintaining a set of sites that may attract potential scam. The Firewall passes all the known leak tests in order to protect the host computing device. Survives spy attempts and transfer of diseased files that may sometimes survive system reboots. Detects and acts against applications that assign themselves substantial system privileges. ââ¬Å"Banking Modeâ⬠is a salient feature. In it, the firewall remains in a banking mode throughout the time the computing device is connected to the internet. During its connection the banking mode of the firewall prevents the host from scams and also from entering the phishing websites. It is a two-way firewall that monitors every connection to a computing device. It provides Protection from Trojan Horses, Viruses and Worms. Spyware and Adware are restricted. The firewall Scans files, Internet services and all connections for any possible intrusion. It also Prevents access to unwanted websites. An edge that it has over other firewalls is that if a computer is already infected it restores the computer to its prior state. It is recommended to my elder sibling that Online Armor Premium Firewall be installed in his home PC. This is because in a reasonable cost it provides adequate support that should be present in any firewall software. Especially its feature of maintaining a databank of trustable and non-trustable sites reduces the number of popups for the system user thus increasing its usability.
